Sound system
Today, the main Daina Hall is probably one of the highest-class spaces for live music events not only in Kaunas, but also in the whole of Lithuania. The stage has all the possibilities to fulfill even the most demanding performers’ expectations, and visitors will enjoy the high-quality balanced sound of the sound system and the acoustics of the building. The authors of the Daina project idea paid extraordinary attention to the selection of instruments and microphones (Backline) – various tube guitar and bass amplifiers, DJ sound consoles – all for the sake of high-quality sound during concerts.
The main hall is equipped with a high-class sound system, which is based on Martin Audio WPC line array modules together with Martin Audio SXH218 low-frequency acoustic systems. The installed Martin Audio WPC array is distinguished by the fact that its dispersion in the sound space is optimized using the 3D simulation software Martin Audio Display3 . After drawing the Daina Great Hall in 3D format and specifying the installation locations of the acoustic arrays in the space, the software automatically selects the array tilt, the mutual angles of the individual modules and calculates other parameters that need to be installed in the sound amplifiers. In this way, the most even pressure distribution in the sound space and the greatest possible attenuation of sound waves on the stage are ensured.
Additionally, Martin Audio FP8 and FP15 loudspeakers and Martin Audio XE300 and Kali Audio LP-8 V2 stage monitors are integrated. An Allen & Heath Avantis console is used for sound control, and audio signals between the stage and the operator’s workstation are transmitted via a digital Dante network. The loudspeakers work together with Martin Audio iK42 and iK81 sound amplifiers.
Equipped with an eight-channel digital wireless microphone system from Shure , the ULXD series, and a six-channel Shure PSM900 in-ear monitoring system – these systems ensure performers impeccable sound quality and maximum comfort on stage during live events.
Another space of the Daina Cinema is adapted for smaller events – the small hall, which has a bar and a mobile prefabricated stage. It is a smaller space than the main hall, but it is not inferior to it in terms of acoustic and technical solutions. The sound system of the small hall is connected to the large hall, so that when events are taking place on the main stage, the small hall would also be able to hear the high-quality sound of the performance taking place nearby.
Martin Audio THS loudspeakers and SXC118 subwoofers are installed here , and the operator’s workstation is equipped with an Allen & Heath SQ5 sound console.
Video system
Although the original function of the Daina building was a cinema, today the building is focused on musical events. However, cinema will sometimes return to the space as a “guest”, so the main hall is equipped with a projection video system with a motorized screen and HDMI/HDBaseT signal transmission infrastructure, allowing for high-quality video playback during both cinema and other events.
Lighting and stage solutions
The stage and hall lighting infrastructure is implemented using a LITEC aluminum traverse system, which can be lowered to the floor in separate groups using EXE chain hoists for convenient adjustment of lighting devices or their reassembly according to different event scenarios. All elements of the lighting and sound infrastructure, installation components are black, matching the overall look of the halls’ interior and acoustic solutions.
The main hall audience area and stage are equipped with more than 60 pcs. Clay Paky multi-function effect lights, 30 pcs. Profile and Fresnel type spotlights for high-quality lighting of performers and filming needs. The lighting system is supplemented with MDG and Smoke Factory fog generators, Antari smoke generators and stage fans. For lighting system control, an Art-Net and Ethernet signal distribution infrastructure with DMX control signal converters has been installed, allowing for flexible changes in the locations of lighting devices, connecting additional lights on traverses or placing them on the floor.
The small hall has a fixed aluminum structure system, on which various lighting devices are suspended. The effect lighting structure can also be flexibly changed here by changing the locations of the spotlights or adding them depending on the technical requirements of the event. The lighting of both halls is controlled by coordinated Chamsys MagicQ series consoles.
